I’m Sugihara, a site leader responsible for the operation and management of passenger carts and autonomous wheelchairs at the airport. In addition to customer service on-site, I am also in charge of staff training, instructing passenger cart staff on driving and customer service techniques. Since the airport serves as Japan’s gateway, I focus on internal training to ensure that all staff provide high-quality service.I have many hobbies, but I especially enjoy traveling and going out. I like to stay active during my days off—camping in the summer and snowboarding in the winter.

ASAMI SUGIHARA
Airport Operations Company A / Airport Facilities Service Operations / Full-time employee, site leader
I worked in the beauty industry for over 10 years before transitioning to my current role. In my previous position, while providing treatments to customers, I often drew inspiration from the scenery and colors around the city to enhance my work. I also gained experience in tenant operations, sales management, and staff training.
Now, I am working in airport services as a site leader. I aim to be a driving force within the company by prioritizing communication with other staff members and working together to grow and improve.
How did you come to take on your current job?
I wanted to be involved in airport operations.
I’ve always been fond of airports and airplanes, and I frequently visited a park near the airport when I was younger. Additionally, “working in airport operations” was on my list of things I wanted to do in life, so when I was introduced to a job at the airport, I made the decision to leave my long-time job and join the company.
At first, I couldn’t imagine what kind of work I would be doing at the airport, but the employees I met were friendly, cheerful, and shared their vision for the future with great enthusiasm. I was impressed by their energy and wanted to work with them.
Of course, my primary reason for joining was my interest in airport operations, but I also value the impression of the employees when choosing a job. That made the decision to join even clearer for me.

What attracts you to your current position?
Lots of new insights and discoveries.
Working at the airport is, in itself, an attractive experience due to its unique nature. Interacting with customers from various countries, encountering different cultures and languages, brings countless new insights and discoveries every day.
Being involved in the beginning and end of a foreign visitor’s journey in Japan, offering hospitality, and seeing their smiles is an invaluable experience that can only be had here! Additionally, the natural exposure to different languages and cultures helps improve language skills, which is a great benefit. When I first joined, I lacked language skills, but now I can confidently converse with others.
Moreover, the staff here comes from a wide age range, and many share a love for travel, airplanes, and airports. The opportunity to exchange useful knowledge and information with colleagues is also one of the appealing aspects of the job.

What are your future goals?
Work to solve problems and seek managerial positions.
Since being promoted to site leader this fiscal year, I’ve been focusing on internal training to improve safety operations and services, as well as organizing initiatives to boost staff motivation. My current focus is on identifying on-site challenges and finding solutions.
The work environment here is great, as many employees are proactive and flexible, quickly embracing new ideas and working together. This has helped me develop my ability to express myself and gradually take on more responsibilities.
Looking ahead, my immediate goal is to build trust with the staff and establish my position as a site leader. Ultimately, I aim to progress into a managerial role and continue to grow in my career.
