BAMINA HANNEDIGE PRABATH ASITHA PEIRIS
Airport Operations Company A / Airport Facilities Service / Contract Worker
From an early age, I had a desire to work abroad and learn about Japan’s cutting-edge technology.
While attending Japanese language school, I learned Japanese through part-time jobs mainly serving customers at restaurants and convenience stores. Then, after graduating from a vocational school, I started working as a nurse’s aide at a hospital. There, I communicated with nurses and dealt with Japanese and foreign patients, which helped me to improve my Japanese language skills. After that, a friend introduced me to my current position, service work at an airport facility.
How did you come to take on your current job?
I wanted to work in Japan, which is evolving day by day.
The economic and technological aspects of my home country, Sri Lanka, are still developing compared to Japan, and I strongly wanted to work while being involved in the ever-evolving Japanese economy and technology.
After coming to Japan, I experienced a variety of jobs, including part-time work and working at a hospital, and later, through the introduction of a friend, I found my current position.
One day, I heard about airport work from a friend who worked at an airport, and I thought, “I would like to work at the gateway to Japan. I also heard that I would have contact not only with Japanese but also with a variety of foreigners, which combined with my desire to work in a global environment led me to apply for the job.
What do you feel about working for a Japanese company?
Teamwork is valued.
Through the jobs I have held and my current workplace, I feel that teamwork is very important in Japan and that staff members help each other.
There was an episode that actually made me realize the importance of teamwork. When I was having trouble dealing with a customer, other staff members followed up and helped me, which enabled me to perform my duties smoothly.
I believe that communication among staff members is important to enhance teamwork, so I try to proactively talk to any staff member who is having trouble.
I would like to continue to strengthen my communication skills and work in cooperation with other staff members.
今後の目標は?
I want to do business as a bridge between my home country and Japan.
First, I would like to become a full-fledged, full-time employee who can be consistently entrusted with my current job, and I would like to be involved in following up with other staff members and training foreign staff members. To achieve this, I need to strengthen my language skills and perform a wide range of tasks from customer service to clerical work, so I would like to acquire these skills through daily study and training. In the future, I would like to develop a business that will serve as a bridge between my home country of Sri Lanka and Japan, and I would like to grow and develop so that I can realize my dream!
